Check the Warranty

Confirm the Battery Has Been Tested

The battery is the component that degrades most with use. Ask about battery capacity — it should be above 80% for iOS (visible under Settings → Battery → Battery Health) or equivalent on Android. If the seller doesn't know or won't say, be cautious.

Check the IMEI

The IMEI is the phone's unique serial number. Before buying, request the IMEI and verify:

That the phone has not been reported stolen (use imei.info or local services).
That it is not carrier-locked.
That iOS Activation Lock is disabled (ask the seller to show the phone switched on and check under Settings → Apple ID).
