10 Tips to Care for Your Phone Battery

The Battery is the Achilles Heel of Smartphones

Every lithium-ion battery degrades over time — but the speed of that degradation depends heavily on your charging habits. With the right practices, you can keep your battery above 85% capacity for much longer.

1. Avoid Charging to 100% Regularly

Frequently charging to 100% accelerates battery degradation. The ideal range is 20%–80%. If you mostly use your phone at home or in the office, consider enabling "Optimized Charging" available on iOS and many Android devices.

2. Don't Let the Battery Reach 0%

Repeated full discharges damage battery cells. Plug in when you reach 20% — don't wait for the critical warning.

3. Use Certified Chargers

Uncertified chargers can deliver unstable current that damages the battery over time. Always use the original charger or one that is MFi-certified (Apple) or compatible with your Android's protocol.

4. Avoid Excessive Heat

Heat is battery enemy number one. Do not leave your phone in the sun, inside a hot car, or on warm surfaces. The ideal temperature for storage and use is 16°C–22°C.

5. Remove the Case During Fast Charging

Fast charging generates heat. Thick cases retain that heat and accelerate degradation. If your case feels warm during charging, remove it temporarily.

6. Enable Battery Saver Mode Early

Don't wait for a critical battery level to enable battery saver. Activate it at 30–40% to extend runtime and reduce stress on the battery.

7. Turn Off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi When Not in Use

Keeping Bluetooth and Wi-Fi active while searching for connections consumes background battery. Turn them off when you leave home and don't need connectivity.

8. Reduce Screen Brightness

The screen is the biggest battery consumer. Reduce brightness to 50–60% indoors. Use dark mode — especially on OLED screens, it saves up to 30% of battery.

9. Limit Background App Refresh

Apps that update in the background (email, social media, news) continuously consume battery. On iOS go to Settings → General → Background App Refresh. On Android manage this in Battery Settings.

10. Replace the Battery at the Right Time

When battery capacity drops below 80% (visible on iOS under Settings → Battery → Battery Health), it is time to replace it. At RM TechStore we replace batteries in 30–60 minutes, with a 3-month warranty.
